I wish we were entering February with jubilant hearts, rather than heavy ones. February is supposed to be full of love (it’s Valentine’s Day, after all), Black pride (heyyyy, Black History Month!), and the ever-so-slight excitement that spring is near (even though I’m a winter girly myself). Instead, we’re heading into February with hearts shattered as we reel from the devastation of the LA fires, the DC and Philly plane crashes, and the unraveling of DEI, to name a few. To say that it’s been a tough year so far is an understatement. It’s been a frightening, infuriating, and harrowing year, and we’re only on day 32.
Emotions and tensions are high right now. We’re all processing grief, trauma, and devastation at unprecedented rates. We have dysregulated rage circulating within our souls with no place to process any of it, so we’re shouting into the abyss of social media, furthering our dysregulation and fraying our already spazzed-out nervous systems. It’s tough right now. And if you find yourself feeling lost, hopeless, or anxious, you’re not alone, and your feelings are valid.
This month’s liberation affirmations are simple, yet powerful. I wrote them because I believe our existence, our joy, our peace, our rest, and our love are our greatest weapons against a system of hatred that tries to defeat us. When you find yourself feeling crushed and defeated, cling to these affirmations. Embody them. Let them free you. Liberation will always be your birthright.
Affirmations to cling to this month:
My existence is resistance
My joy is my liberation
My peace is my protection
My rest is my rebellion
My love is my power.

I feel this so deeply. It’s hard to stay hopeful when everything feels so heavy. But these affirmations are powerful reminders that even in the chaos, we can choose peace, joy, and love. Have you found any ways to hold on to those moments of peace in times like this? It’s been a challenge for me, but I’m trying to keep these thoughts close.
Thank you! I needed this today. ❤️
